Kim Baptista considers herself a “flavor liaison,” using her knowledge and curiosity to create wine lists and cocktail programs that present exciting new possibilities to customers. Taking the familiar and comfortable and putting her own twist on it, she’s driven by creating and serving beverages to enhance a food program and introduce people to things they might not otherwise try. Joe Neuman’s grandfather Hugo Neuman founded Willamette Valley Winery (not related to Willamette Valley Vineyards) as soon as Prohibition ended in 1933. The winery was located outside Philomath and Hugo was early enough to the newly created OLCC offices that it was Oregon Bonded Winery No. 3. Ed Hellman wrote the book on Oregon viticulture, so much that the title is actually “Oregon Viticulture.” In 1973, the Oregon legislature passed Senate Bills 100 and 101, granting counties unprecedented ability to plan for land use.
