The modern Oregon wine industry began in the 1960s; yet, well into the 1980s, the state still had fewer than 50 wineries. Today the number of wineries has surpassed 700 and shows no signs of slowing down. Oregon wine now employs tens of thousands of people and infuses millions of dollars into the state’s economy.
The story of that growth is the story of farmers and winemakers, of marketers and scientists, of dreamers and visionaries. The Oregon Wine History Archive at Linfield College is committed to preserving and sharing their stories, and telling the larger narrative of Oregon wine.
As the industry grows and matures, the Oregon Wine History Archive will be here to document the journey.
