Thank you to Aliya Hall and The Other Oregon for featuring our work here at the OWHA! Lorrie and Eric Normann took their family to view a Veneta vineyard that had come up for sale “just for fun,” not yet knowing it would change the course of their lives. Ed Hellman wrote the book on Oregon viticulture, so much that the title is actually “Oregon Viticulture.” In 1973, the Oregon legislature passed Senate Bills 100 and 101, granting counties unprecedented ability to plan for land use. Gregory Theim and his father opened Gregory’s International, a gourmet food and wine shop at the newly designed Water Tower in Johns Landing in the early 1970s. In addition to featuring international foods and gourmet cheese, the family wanted to focus on wine, specifically wine from the nascent Oregon industry. Today we joined Hopper Canty at @negociantpdx to hear about how he ended up at what has become the “neighborhood wine café” on the corner of Irving and 21st in Portland.
