INTERVIEW SUMMARY

In this interview Jim Maresh of Red Hills Winery and Arterberry Maresh talks about coming to Oregon, his start in cherry picking, agriculture, and wine. Jim discusses Red Hills history, philosophy, and wild stories from his time at the winery.

Jim purchased property on Worden Hill Road in 1959 and began planting many different crops, including grapes. His daughter Martha Maresh married Fred Arterberry, who became the winemaker with Jim’s grapes.

This interview was conducted on December 2, 2002 at his home in Dundee by local author and historian, Barbara Doyle. This interview was collected by the Yamhill County History Museum and generously shared with the Oregon Wine History Archives.
